facilitating future mobility ecosystems

There needs to be a new, more sustainable way of getting around. E-cycling is gathering great popularity, and rail is becoming the most hopeful future transport method, but a lack of facilities is currently making the user experience of leaving bikes at train stations very poor.

The likes of Utrecht Central Station prove that good facilities will help people want to cycle to train stations more, but they are massive underground complexes that are part of a nationwide cycling culture. It would be a big ask for the UK to be the same, but people need to get a similar feeling to begin incentivising them to choose more sustainable transport.

Utrecht central station is a great example, but the UK has a long way to go to reach this level.

Instead, I proposed smaller, retrofittable facilities that focus on being adaptable in size and configuration. These facilities will utilise modern processes like 3D scanning, parametric modelling and laser cutting as part of Industry 4.0 manufacturing techniques, truly allowing them to meet the requirements of different stations.

industry 4.0 techniques offer almost full manufacturing flexibility.

The layout of the facilities can be created in an online configurator, inputting basic dimensions, footfall and requirements to be recommended a range of different configurations that match the exact needs of each station.
