hermaphroditus
in archaic terms, hermaphrodite means ‘a person or thing combining opposite qualities or characteristics‘.
The brief for this one-week microbrief was to create our own hermaphrodite, proposing to create something that looks similar to the original object, but actually does the complete opposite, as if creating a physical pun.
i had been through many ideas, but one stood out to me as a well-rounded pun.
Ultimately, I chose to combine the concepts of cleaning and making a mess, in a toothbrush (that typically cleans) and Flake (that typically makes a mess), into the ‘messy toothbrush’ idea.
This piece was surprisingly difficult to produce as the Flake would crumble under the slightest pressure!
